Part I: “Hands on Microvascular Anastomosis Course”

Part II: “Hands-on White Matter Dissection Course & Live Surgery”

Dear Colleagues,

It is a great honor to cordially invite you to the ¨8th İstanbul Microneurosurgery Course¨

In the last decade the fiber dissection technique managed to attract attention as the importance of white matter is much more appreciated. Nowadays it is clearly understood that navigating safely through the narrow corridors of the brain requires adequate knowledge of the three-dimensional architecture of the white matter. In this course we try to provide the participant with the basics of fiber dissection technique, which opens the door to understanding the complex anatomy and connections of the white matter tracts.

“Istanbul Microneurosurgery Course” is consisted of two parts and designed for neurosurgeons as well as all neuroscientists. Unique to this course every participant will have his/her own lab station equipped with necessary surgical tools and microscope, which allows a very comfortable working environment without the need of sharing the specimen with others. To provide this comfort we needed to limit the number of participants.

Part I: “Hands on Microvascular Anastomosis Course” will be held on 7-10 June 2017. The great teacher of microsurgery “Rosmarie Frick” will lead the participants in learning the key points of micro suturing, vascular anastomosis and micro dissection with her worldwide known well organised and disciplined program.

Part II: “Hands-on White Matter Dissection Course & Live Surgery” will be held from June 11 to 16, 2017. First 3 days, through white matter dissection workshop all participants will experience the three dimensional anatomy of the human brain. In the following days, live surgeries observed in 3D, lectures from experts and case discussions would demonstrate the value of mastering the brain anatomy in practice of neurosurgery. Please feel free to bring your interesting cases to be discussed.

Professor M. Gazi Yaşargil, who originated such courses, is co-directing the Istanbul Microneurosurgery Course. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all participants to learn the principles of microneurosurgery from the founder himself. Professor Anton Valavanis, student and later associate of Professor Yaşargil will be joining us in the course. He is recognised as one of the leading interventional neuroradiologists worldwide. Doubtlessly we will all benefit from the lectures delivered by the highly regarded, distinguished faculty members from various branches of neuroscience.

We are looking forward to welcoming you from all over the world to our course.
